Dr. Angela Wakhweya
Dr. Angela Wakhweya joined S.O.U.L. Foundation, Inc as Executive Director in December 2022 after close to three decades in global health development. Dr Angela holds a Doctor of Medicine degree (MBChB) from Makerere University Medical School in Kampala, Uganda; and, a Master of Science in Health Planning and Financing, jointly awarded by the London School of Economics and Political Science, and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London, in the United Kingdom.
Dr. Angela’s career spans clinical medicine, HIV/AIDS prevention and care, maternal health, infant, child and adolescent health, as well as other infectious disease prevention and environmental health and protection. Born and raised in Uganda, her public health career was greatly influenced by the numerous relatives she lost to HIV/AIDS, at the height of the pandemic in the 1990s, prior to antiretroviral therapy being widely available. She has made it her life mission to lift children and families out of extreme poverty, by promoting education, and to reduce maternal mortality in rural communities, in the context of HIV prevention.
